Questionnaire: Mosquitoes and Mosquito-borne viruses

After the positive cases of West Nile virus in the Netherlands, people had some interesting responses to the news. PhDs Ayat Abourashed and Pauline de Best became curious about people’s understanding and behaviour towards mosquito-borne virues.

Together, they have developed and validated a questionnaire on mosquitoes and mosquito-borne viruses. Human behavior is very important for prevention of infectious diseases, including vector-borne diseases. Since vector-borne diseases are non-endemic in Europe, but becoming more prevalent, prevention measures against mosquito bites will become more important. To adequately inform people, it is key to identify what people know about mosquitoes, mosquito-borne viruses and prevention measures. Furthermore, these perceptions influence people’s actions against mosquitoes and mosquito-borne viruses. With this questionnaire, Ayat and Pauline want to assess the knowledge and perceptions of the Dutch and Spanish public to gain a better understanding of people’s current behaviours in regards to mosquitoes and mosquito-borne viruses.

Do you want to participate in the questionnaire? The questionnaire is available in English, Dutch and Spanish. Follow this link: https://erasmusmcsurvey.erasmusmc.nl/eu-mbv/ls/index.php/981241 Sharing the link within your network is very much appreciated.
