Today it is World Health Day!

world health day 2023

World Health Day is celebrated every year on the anniversary of the founding day of the World Health Organization. Today, April 7th of 2023, the World Health Organization will observe its 75th anniversary!

It’s a day to focus on and raise awareness around health issues that affect people all over the globe. But let’s not forget the part that planetary health plays in World Health!!

The history of World Health Day is directly linked to the formation of the World Health Organization. The World Health Organization is an agency of the United Nations that focuses on the public health of the world at large. The WHO has a constitution that countries involved in the United Nations had an opportunity to sign, and unanimously did, agreeing to the tenets laid out within to promote the general health of the globe.

In 1948, countries of the world came together and founded  WHO to promote health, to keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable. The world has experienced public health challenges that have required us all to come together with science, solutions and solidarity. So everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health and well-being.

WHO’s 75th anniversary year is an opportunity to look back at public health successes that have improved quality of life during the last seven decades. It is also an opportunity to motivate action to tackle the health challenges of today, and tomorrow.
